One of the greatest powers which are endowed to the executive office of the president in the United States is making of foreign policies. In making foreign policies, the president acts as a statesman for the country deciding the path the country should take in its relationship with the rest of the world. The president makes foreign policy for the country from the constitution powers which empower executive to make foreign policy as a response to foreign events, legislation proposal, negotiating international agreements, policy statements, implementation of policies, or as an independent action.

However the founding fathers of the nation had the dream of a shared responsibility in making of foreign policies. Foreign policies are important in the existence of a government that serves the public as well as relating well with other countries. It is for this reason that the initial constitution of the United States sought to have more powers on making of foreign policy laid on the legislative body or the congress. However changes in the constitution over the years has entrusted the role of making foreign policy to both the executive (president) and the legislative (congress).

In making foreign polices, the president is lead by a number of advisers most important the secretary of state. The secretary of state, called foreign minister in other countries is a key advisor to both the president and the congress on matter of foreign policies. However, the current constitution has given more powers on foreign policy to the executive than the legislative. Both the president and the congress can act as initiator in enactment of a foreign policy. In this case the president, also the spokesman of the nation initiates foreign policy by directing government officials in taking actions towards the advance of US foreign policy interest.

On the other hand, the congress assumes and an oversight responsibilities and is likely to affect the course of foreign policy by enacting legislation that govern foreign policies or through appropriation or in denying funds. The mistakes that we have witness in the past with the foreign policies has taught us that foreign policy are important for the nation and therefore they should not be left in the hand of one person. While it is important for the president to have powers to formulate foreign policies as a statesman,www.beats4monster.co.uk, the congress should have more powers in vetting the foreign policies made by the president. This will ensure that before a foreign policy is carried out there is a thorough assessment and approval by majority of our leaders.

This would avert us from a war situation our country is currently entangled in which due to foreign policies is enacted by the executive. The military plays an important role in guarding our national interest. This is the main reason why we all pay high taxes in order to maintain a well trained and well equipped military. However, our military should not be reduced to a personal instrument for revenge by our leaders such that it will be used to overthrow a foreign government in the name of safeguarding our national interest. Therefore we should have more restriction in the way our military is deployed. United States military power is one of the factors that make it a sole superpower in the world. Our military is there to protect the invasion of our national interest. In the modern world of globalization the policy of withdrawal from world issues cannot work since our country will be affected.

Therefore our military should remain aggressive but only where it concerns our interest and for protection of our citizens. Going by our military spending, we can afford to maintain an aggressive military that serves only national interest.
